Details of the death of the Managing Director of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, Dr Timothy Olawale, have emerged.

Olawale died on Friday after a brief illness. Announcing his death yesterday, the NECA secretariat in a statement said: “It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Timothy Olawale, our CEO, on October 1, 2021 in a hospital. from Abuja.

“He is survived by a wife, children and other relatives. We pray to God to grant his family and all of us the courage to endure this irreplaceable loss.

“The Association is in contact with the family and more information will be communicated in due course.”

Meanwhile, Sunday Vanguard sources have informed that workaholic Olawale has marathon commitments between Tuesday and Thursday.

He attended the board meeting of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF on Tuesday.

According to an NSITF board member who requested anonymity, the meeting which started in the morning did not end until after 6 p.m.

According to him, “Olawale, who was generally very dynamic, was not himself through the meeting. During the meeting his body was changing and he looked pale. He struggled to contribute throughout the meeting.

“After the meeting, I went to see him and asked him what the problem was. He told me he fell in the hotel and was not feeling well. He said he had pain in parts of his body. I told him to go to the hospital and take care of him. I even suggested that she buy some Aboniki rub to massage her body. I didn’t know it was the last time I was going to see him. We were close and he was very dynamic. His jovial nature will surely be missed at board meetings and informal gatherings. That his soul rests in peace.”

Although Vanguard could not confirm whether he visited the hospital on Wednesday, however, it was established that he was in the office of the Petroleum Regulatory and Pricing Agency, PPPRA, to submit his passport to the agency in order to obtain an Egyptian visa.

According to the source, he and other board members were charged to travel to Egypt on October 9 for training sponsored by PPPRA.

On Thursday, Vanguard learned that he had attended a board meeting of the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, of which he was co-chair, and several other meetings, including advocacy meetings.

Sources said he planned to return to Lagos on Friday morning, but fell ill Thursday evening and was taken to a private hospital where he died on Friday.

Olawale was the executive secretary of the Hospitality and Personal Services Employers Association, before joining NECA, was confirmed substantive general manager of the employers’ body in January 2019, after acting for six months.

He succeeded Mr. Segun Oshinowo, who retired in 2018 after serving NECA for 19 years as Managing Director.

Ngige, NLC cry

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labor and Employment, Senator Chris’s Ngige, and the leadership of the Nigeria Labor Congress, NLC, have expressed their shock at his death.

According to a statement by the deputy director of press and public relations of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Charles Akpan, Ngige, in a message of condolence to the association, said: “We were shocked to learn of the unexpected news. the death of NECA Director General Dr Timothy Olaware. We are sorry for your loss and extend our sincere condolences to your organization, NECA, and all of its affiliated employer associations.

For its part, the NLC, in a statement by its chairman, Ayuba Wabba, said:), Dr Timothy Olawale, yesterday, October 1, 2021 in Abuja ”.
