LANSING, MI — A stranger’s advice helped a Genesee County woman win the lottery and win a $4 million jackpot playing the Michigan Lottery’s Ultimate Millions instant game.
“My husband and I stopped for gas and went to the gas station to pay,” said the 54-year-old winner who chose to remain anonymous. “While we were queuing, someone in the store came up to us and said, ‘You should buy a $30 lottery ticket, I bet you’ll win $4 million.’ We thought about it for a moment and then decided to buy an Ultimate Millions ticket.
“We scratched the ticket when we got in the car and were shocked when we saw that we had won $4 million. We thought we were missing something and it was impossible for us to win. We decided to put the ticket away and review it on the way back to confirm what we were seeing.
The winner bought her ticket at the Mobil gas station, located at 9490 South Saginaw Road in Grand Blanc. She recently visited the lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim her prize. She elected to receive the money as a one-time lump sum payment of $2.5 million rather than as an annuity.
With her earnings, she plans to pay her bills and save the rest.
