The sale of recreational marijuana is ongoing throughout Arizona.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, medical marijuana facilities in the state can now apply for — and be approved for — recreational marijuana licenses.

Voters passed Proposition 207 in November, legalizing the sale and possession of recreational marijuana in Arizona. The sale of recreational marijuana will be through establishments that already had a license to sell marijuana for medical purposes, according to ADHS. There are 123 medical marijuana facilities across the state.

According to an ADHS spokesperson, the Department of Health Services has received 79 applications since the start of the application period at the start of January 20. Six applications are still under review. All other requests were approved.

Three applications have been approved at Chandler — at Azgm 3 Inc., Border Health Inc. and Total Health & Wellness Inc. — according to ADHS. A request was approved to Gilbert at Absolute Health Care Inc. Total Health & Wellness Inc. was listed twice in the licenses, it was not immediately clear if these were two different locations or an error.

The Town of Chandler and the Town of Gilbert have already issued rules for the sale and use of marijuana within town and city limits.
