Democrats continue their barrage of hard-hitting TV commercials against Congresswoman Jean Stanfield (R-Westampton), using the voices and images of seven people to argue that the Republican candidate for the state Senate voted against the interests of residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

The seven – two supermarket workers, two nurses, a firefighter, a police officer and a young man – tear up Stanfield in the latest paid advertisement by Democratic State Senator Dawn Addiego (D-Evesham) and her running mates for voting against legislation to allow essential workers who have contracted COVID-19 to qualify for wage replacements and health care under the state’s workers compensation program.

Scenario: “(Nurse) When Covid struck, we continued to work to help sick people. (Supermarket worker) To bring food to people. (Fireman) To extinguish fires. (Police): To ensure the safety of people. (Nurse): Why did Jean Stanfield stick it to us? (Male) Stanfield objected to insurance companies paying our medical bills if we caught Covid. (Supermarket Worker): Stanfield has sided with insurance companies instead of essential workers. (Fireman) I guess Stanfield doesn’t think we’re essential. (Police) Jean Stanfield talks a good game… (Supermarket worker)… but she doesn’t care about the workers. (Nurse) She’s just taking care of herself.

The bill cited in the ad, S-2380, was passed by the Assembly, 42-27, and the Senate, 27-10. Governor Phil Murphy signed the law last September.

The ad airs on Philadelphia TV and South Jersey Cable TV. The campaign did not say how much money they are putting behind the ad.

Stanfield, a six-term former sheriff who won an Assembly seat in 2019, takes on Addiego, his former running mate, in the politically competitive 8th legislative constituencies. Addiego had been an independent owner and Republican lawmaker until he changed parties in early 2019.

Two Democratic MPs in closely watched races to topple the GOP State Senate seats – Vince Mazzeo (D-Northfield) in the 2nd and Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick) in the 16th – abstained on the draft of law.
