The Mega Millions and Powerball games both offer life-changing prizes for North Carolinians who want to try their luck this weekend to win a jackpot.

Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is $ 112 million in annuity, or $ 81.5 million in cash. Then on Saturday, the Powerball jackpot offers an even bigger jackpot, weighing in at $ 278 million in annuity or $ 196.6 million in cash.

Other big prizes could also be won, as both games offer nine ways to win. Besides the jackpot, Powerball offers prizes of up to $ 2 million and Mega Millions, up to $ 5 million.

In Wednesday’s Powerball draw, two tickets sold in North Carolina won $ 50,000 after they tied four of the white balls and the red Powerball in the design. One ticket was sold at the Pinebluff Mini Mart on North Walnut Street in Pinebluff, Moore County and the other at Advance Tobacco on US 158 in Advance, Davie County.

“When playing for this jackpot, always check your tickets afterwards,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the NC Education Lottery. “Even if you don’t hit the jackpot, you could win some other awesome prizes like the lucky Powerball players did on Wednesday. Jackpot wins would change your life, but other wins can definitely make your day.

Powerball draws take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and the odds of winning a jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Mega Millions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday and the odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

Players can purchase Powerball or Mega Millions tickets at any lottery store or through online play on the lottery website, www.nclottery.com, and with the official NC Lottery mobile app.

Selling tickets to raffle games such as Powerball and Mega Millions allows the lottery to raise more than $ 900 million per year for education. For more details on how lottery funds have made a difference in North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery website.
